My first trip to the West Slope

Me, Kurt and Jason (L to R) Rockin' it at the barn dance
Yeehaw! I had an absolutely great time at the barn dance in Pallisade this past Friday. It was my first trip over to the west slope and it was an absolutely beautiful drive. My Prius and I made several stops on the way over the pass to take pictures of the beautiful cottonwoods as they were changing to a magnificent yellow. If you have a chance head over to DeBeque and experience the vibrant colors of the leaves as the trees line the banks of the Colorado River.
I arrived in Pallisade on Friday afternoon and was excited to finally meet all of the West Slope staff: Joe, Jason and Kate from the GJ office greeted me when I arrived and I was excited to meet Luke and Sasha, from Craig, a few minutes later. We had a great pre-barn dance pow-wow and then the guests flooded in!
We had about 300 folks show up — so many that we ran out of parking spots on the property! It was a beautiful night for a barn dance as the sun set on the hills in front of us and the light trickled over the vineyard. The wine and sangria were a huge hit and the food was gone in a flash (I ate bread for dinner). The band, Stray Grass, brought in a ton of people and there is no question why they rocked!
Elise got up and gave a brief speech and presented the West Slope volunteer of the year award to Lee Gelatt.
I think we would’ve danced all night long if we could’ve.
